The Mission of the Minersville Area Lions Club

The mission of the Minersville Area Lions Club is to improve the quality of life for residents of Minersville and Schuylkill County by providing support for health related issues, youth programs, emergency relief in disaster situations, cultural growth, and other needs of the local community through giving and personal service.

The Minersville Area Lions Club began in September of 1949 within a group of men led by Melvin Jenkins, a member of the Pottsville Lions Club. The club was officially organized on October 19, 1949 under the sponsorship of the Schuylkill Haven Lions Club.

We celebrated our Charter Night on December 6, 1949 at a dinner in Hillcrest Hall, Minersville, PA. On November 13, 1999, the club observed its 50th anniversary, with three charter members still within the club: Clervant Artz, Thomas Asenavage and Dr. Robert Boran.

At the Lions State Convention in Philadelphia in May 1974, the club received State and National recognition when Lion Gerard Brennan was elected District Governor of District 14K with jurisdiction of over 76 clubs.

Major Completed Projects include:

  • Financed, constructed, and continue to operate a large picnic pavilion facility for use by community groups and individuals.
